Election night reporting

Whether reporting or helping others tell their stories it’s hard not to get involved in news.

When the General Election was called Sky News were keen to bolster their coverage of results in the north of England and approached me to cover a count.

It’s the kind of event which still generates interest despite covering many over the years. The newly formed Whitehaven and Workington seat in west Cumbria was of particular interest. At the heart of Britain’s Energy Coast, the area is home to the nuclear industry and proposed site of a new coal mine.

On the night we fed live images of counting to the Sky News audience and recorded the moment when a new MP was elected.
