Podcast conference hears industry continues to climb

The Podcast Show is probably one of the biggest in the world and a great opportunity to keep in touch with the latest developments in the industry.

On the day the General Election was called James Cridland kicked off with a great sitrep of podcasting here and abroad sharing data which indicated that audiences are thriving.

iHeartMedia shared details of how serving minority audiences is now possible with case studies showing how engagement has boomed; quality over quantity seems to be the watchword.

Research by Edison showed that 55 per cent of podcast listeners are at home followed by 14% walking and 10% in a car. Interesting to think that my own listening habits are probably the reverse; radio has been largely replaced by podcasts in the car followed by home listening (I use walking time for planning/thinking/switching off!)

I sat in on a recording of Tortoise Media’s Newsroom podcast and met a number of old friends now working in a variety of podcasting companies.

Lots to think about and lots of potential!
